Mario was shot on Alexa XT, sometimes with an additional Alexa Mini as B Cam. Even though the final aspect ratio will be 1,85:1, everything was shot 4:3 for more room in post. The proxies were sent to editing in 16:9 though. Every scene that contained compositing of any kind was shot in Open Gate ArriRaw for maximum flexibility in post.
It was a pleasure to work with DoP Sophie Maintigneux. She was always two steps ahead and had exact visions about the look of the shots. Every shooting day around lunch time, we went over the footage from the day before for about 10 to 15 minutes. This procedure gave her full control about how the first impression of the footage will be in editing.
